Introducing our keynote speakers: James Sprayregen and Jeffrey H. Aronson

James is a managing director in the Leveraged Finance Group in the Investment Banking Division. He joined Goldman Sachs in 2006.

James was the lead restructuring advisor in the restructuring process of United Airlines, the Chapter 11 sale of TWA, Zenith, American Airlines, Conseco Insurance Company, NRG Energy, Chiquita Brands, United Artists Theatres, among others. He
formerly lead the Restructuring Practice of Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where he was an attorney for 16 years and has extensive background in insolvency matters, representing major US and international companies in and out of Chapter 11 proceedings, buyers and sellers of assets in distressed situations, advising boards of directors, and generally representing debtors and creations in workout, insolvency, restructuring and bankruptcy matters.

James serves on the Boards of INSOL International and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. He is a frequent lecturer and has published numerous articles on insolvency issues and is adjunct professor on restructuring at both the University of Chicago Business School and the New York University Law School.

James received his BA, cum laude, from the University of Michigan and his JD, cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law. He lives in Chicago with his wife and their three children.


Jeffrey H. Aronson is a Co-Founder and Managing Principal of Centerbridge Partners, an investment management firm specializing in private equity and distressed securities investments. Prior to founding Centerbridge in 2006, Mr. Aronson was a partner at Angelo, Gordon & Co., a leading alternative investment firm, where he led all of the firm's distressed securities and leveraged loan efforts. He has sat on numerous creditor committees and has been deeply involved in many U.S.
and overseas restructurings. Before joining Angelo, Gordon in 1989, Mr. Aronson served as Senior Corporate Counsel at L.F. Rothschild & Co. He began his career as a securities attorney with the law firm of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan. Mr. Aronson graduated with honors from Johns Hopkins University and has a J.D. from New York University School of Law.
